Monasteries in Lower Saxony (2014)

Monasteries have been part of the cultural landscape in Lower Saxony for centuries. Founded by orders such as the Cistercians or Benedictines, they were centers of religious and spiritual life, places of education and archivists of their time. there were 360 monasteries in Lower Saxony in the Middle Ages, many of which were converted into Protestant nunneries during the Reformation. KaJo visited forty monasteries selected by the Lower Saxony Chamber of Monasteries and convents, both Protestant and Catholic, as well as former monasteries. And Hans Werner Dannowski, long-time superintendent of the Evangelical Lutheran City Church of Hanover (who died in 2016 at the age of 83), provided an entertaining and knowledgeable introduction to the history. The volume was published by Hinstorff-Verlag in 2014
