Above Northern Germany (1993)
After the success of "Balloon over Eastern Germany", it was only natural to explore the vast skies over Northern Germany. Sponsored by Nord/LB, this time not only a hot air balloon was used, but also a helicopter due to the constant proximity to the coast. An aircraft that only follows the prevailing wind is too dangerous near the sea. In our case, due to our limited budget, we resorted to the aged helicopter (Bell 47) of a private pilot to put together a mosaic of northern German landscapes, from the Wadden Sea and the East Frisian Islands to the Harz or Heath and the Hanseatic cities. Due to the high hourly costs of a helicopter, the missions, weather and routes were meticulously prepared by friend and colleague Manfred Schmidt. From a bird's eye view, northern Germany unfolds its charm in a special way. in 1993, the illustrated book "Über Norddeutschland" was published by KAJO's own publishing house with knowledgeable texts by Jürgen Hogrefe (Der Spiegel).
