Pictures from New Zealand 1986-96
After the success of "Pictures of a World Tour" (where we both met), we chose New Zealand as our first joint book project. On a low budget, with a rusty Toyota and a cramped mountaineering tent, we traveled the land of our antipodes for six months. We let ourselves drift "according to plan" (still in the analog age), following invitations and coincidences. With the shepherds of the Garvie Mountains, the painter Hundertwasser or the Maori Rastafarians on the East Cape, we found extraordinary people and perspectives. In the 1980s, these islands at the other end of the globe were still barely developed in a tourist sense - and that had its own special charm. In 1986, "New Zealand" was our second illustrated book in the publishing program of our own KaJo publishing house. Further New Zealand volumes followed until 1997, including with other publishers.
