40 years together ...
When we met over 40 years ago, Karl had landed on the "dream island" of Bali on a side trip during his 3-year trip around the world and Jackie was there on a short vacation. Our week of traveling together had consequences. A year later, Jackie quit her job as a bookseller in Perth and started her own trip around the world, which took her via Asia and Turkey to Hanover in 1985. Like all young Australians, she actually wanted to work in London for a year. But she stayed in Hanover and was "mercilessly" involved in the production process of "Bilder einer Weltreise", even without any knowledge of German. Those were still the analog days of glue wrapping and lithography. Jackie bravely jumped into the water, corrected layouts and proofs on the printing press with a keen eye - and learned German surprisingly quickly by listening. Since then, we have completed countless projects together. Without the creativity and planning of Jackie, who was born in Scotland and grew up in Australia, most of our illustrated books would not have been produced and Karl would not have survived his serious operations so quickly in 2018. And now we are in well-deserved retirement ..
